The Caribbean Sail Training Association
The Caribbean Sail Training Association ( CSTF ) has been established some years ago as a registered nonprofit / charity association with the aim to provide education and sail training towards young people of all nationalities, cultures, religions and social backgrounds and specially towards people living in the Caribbean.
The goal of the association is to acquire one day a Tall Ship to run sail training and educational programs at sea all year round for Caribbean and other youth.
Over the last years, the CSTF has placed many youngsters from Caribbean Islands on board Tall ships.
Trough sponsorship programs and in cooperation with the Maritime School of the West Indies, the association arranges sail training voyages on board Tall ships and yachts that are provided at no cost to the trainees.
Eventual expenses like air line tickets, hotel stays etc. are also paid for by the association.
The Maritime School of the West Indies
This well known and respected official International Yachtmaster Training affiliated school is conveniently located in Marina Royale in the center of Marigot St.Martin on the lagoon.
Principal, Veerle Rolus, runs already for over 8 years mainly professional yacht courses like the official MCA 5 day STCW'95, the IYT Master of Yachts 200 Ton Offshore and Ocean, as well as the small powerboat and tender license (required for operation in the Med) VHF radio course, ISPS, Personal Watercraft ( Jet Ski/Wave Runner ) courses, Dive Boat Master ( PADI ) and others.
Most are MCA approved, world wide recognized and rates are mostly lower than anywhere else.
They also run a broad range of other yachting related courses like the Bareboat Charter Captain's license for recreational yachtsman.
The school offers also customized courses like fire fighting, first aid etc. on board large yachts and on other islands like Antigua, Tortola, Curacao and others.
A useful crew pick up taxi boat service from and to all the major marinas in the lagoon is provided to the dock in front of the school’s office in Marina Royale on the French side.
As from the 2011 winter season, the school will also start with “live aboard” courses on Tall Ships.
Over the past years, the school has sponsored many sail training weeks for Caribbean youngsters on board Tall ships and other vessels.
On line reservations, bookings and secure credit card payments are available.
